Stitchfinder: Crochet Floral Block: Chrysanthemum Square
This generic pattern can be used with whatever yarn and hook/needle size you prefer.
Skill level: intermediate
Method of working:center is worked in a spiral and the outer part in the round
Central flower: Using A, make 6 ch, ss in 3rd ch from hook, 2 ch, sk 2 ch, 1 sc in first ch made. Do not turn.
[5 ch, ss in 3rd ch from hook, 2 ch, sk 2 ch, 1 sc in side edge of sc, do not turn] 8 times.
[7 ch, ss in 3rd ch from hook, 4 ch, sk 4 ch, 1 sc in side edge of sc, do not turn] 9 times.
[9 ch, ss in 3rd ch from hook, 6 ch, sk 6 ch, 1 sc in side edge of sc, do not turn] 9 times.
Without turning work and counting along side edge, ss in 8th sc. Fasten off A.
Round 1: Turn work over and join B to back loop of any sc in the ring just made, 3 ch, 2 dc in back loop of each of 7 sts, 1 dc in base of 3 ch, ss in 3rd of 3 ch. 16 dc.
Round 2: 3 ch, 2 dc in each dc, 1 dc in base of 3 ch, ss in 3rd of 3 ch. 32 dc.
Round 3: 3 ch, [1 dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc] 15 times, 1 dc in last dc, 1 dc in base of 3 ch, ss in 3rd of 3 ch. 48 dc.
Round 4: 3 ch, [1 dc in each of 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc] 15 times, 1 dc in each of 2 dc, 1 dc in base of 3 ch. 64 dc. Fasten off B.
Round 5: Join C to any dc, 2 ch, 3 dc tog in same place as base of 2 ch, [4 ch, sk 3 dc, 4 dc tog in next dc] 15 times, 4 ch, sk 3 dc, ss in 3 dc tog. 80 sts. Fasten off C.
Round 6: Join B to any 4-ch sp, 6 ch, [2 tr, 1 dc] in same 4-ch sp, * [2 dc, 3 hdc] in next 4-ch sp, 5 sc in next 4-ch sp, [3 hdc, 2 dc] in next 4-ch sp, [1 dc, 2 tr, 2 ch, 2 tr, 1 dc] in next 4-ch sp, * rep from * to * 3 more times ending last rep with [1 dc, 1 tr] in first ch sp, ss in 4th of 6 ch. 21 sts on each side.
Round 7: Ss into 2-ch sp, 5 ch, 2 dc in same 2-ch sp, * 1 dc in each of 21 sts, [2 dc, 2 ch, 2 dc] in 2-ch sp, * rep from * to * ending last rep with 1 dc in first ch sp, ss in 3rd of 5 ch. 25 sts on each side. Fasten off B.
Coil the free end of the central flower tightly and sew it in place.
